Selection of Animals
If you ask what the Drakensberger breeders association does for its members, the answer is a thorough one, just like the service that you can expect of the association.
The Drakensberger breeders association was initiated on 7 November 1947 to protect this unique indigenous breed. The breeders association has a standard of excellence that all stud animals needs to conform to.
The progeny of stud animals are selected annually by inspectors of the breeders association on each stud breeder’s farm. Visual and functional selection is performed according to the standard of excellence. All animas that pass both the performance and visual selection, is branded with the sought after “D” on the left shoulder.
The annual selection tours is held between March and May country wide.
